How This Mom Runs Her Editorial Business From Home

When it comes to running an editorial business from home, there are many factors that pave the way to success. Having the right editorial skills and knowing how to manage your time are important. Two more essential factors are mindset and confidence.

Mindset and confidence give you the courage to grow your business and to make money as a proofreader or editor. Believing that you can take action because you have the ability to succeed, and knowing there is space for you in the industry is key.

I recently had a fantastic discussion about this with Sadie Hall, a proofreader and editor who runs her busy editing business from home. She works with entrepreneurs and indie writers, with a specialization in fantasy fiction. Sadie is also a graduate of our training programs, High-Level Proofreading And Copyediting Pro and The Art of Line Editing.

In addition to being a sought after proofreader and editor, Sadie is also a mother, writer, and a social anxiety advocate. She is currently writing a book on the subject, and has a podcast. Sadie is a very busy person, and having a flexible career has allowed her to prioritize her family and mental health.

I am so grateful for Sadie’s honesty and openness about how she managed to overcome her anxiety in order to build a thriving and profitable editing business. She’s gone on to help her clients create amazing stories and content. Her own story is truly inspiring and a great example of what happens when you believe you deserve success.

In this interview, Sadie and I chatted about:

  • How she balances a busy editorial business with raising a family
  • When she knew she had to expand her business with more editing services
  • Why she thinks proofreading and editing are well suited for introverts
  • How she managed her social anxiety so she could hold discovery calls and market her business
  • What her average day is like
  • How she deals with perfectionism and Imposter Syndrome as an editor
  • Plus lots more!

I had a lot of fun chatting with Sadie, and I know you will enjoy listening to her story!
