How One Editor’s Unique Personal Brand Inspires Writers

As an educator and coach, I’ve always believed in the power of an editor’s personal brand. For Lakeisha Cadogan, the key to her success as an editor is the unique brand she has built. Known as The Book Druid, she inspires writers to create compelling and engaging stories that stay with them long after the last word has been read.

Becoming an editor who works with books was an easy change for Lakeisha, who used to work in an office and commute for hours every day. The desire to have more time with her children, and to have more flexibility to live a fulfilling life, led her to editorial work.

Lakeisha, who is also an Edit Republic grad, says her editing business has impacted her life greatly.

“I like being available to my kids when they need me. I like being able to take my daughter to school and pick her up, and then chat to her when we’re in the car driving home. I like being able to schedule health appointments when I need them. It’s been really helpful to have a schedule that I can control… I enjoy being able to take a rest when I need rest, and I don’t need permission to do that.”

I had such a fun and insightful interview with Lakeisha about her life as an editor. We discussed:

  • How she created a unique personal brand centred around her spirituality, tarot, and mindset
  • Why Lakeisha is so passionate about working with fiction writers
  • The one thing we wish all aspiring proofreaders and editors knew about freelancing
  • How she also edits business communications and works with Plain Language
  • What her typical day is like running an editing business from home
