If you have a love of grammar and can spot errors in text, then you have what it takes to become a proofreader and editor. Imagine getting paid to read and fix mistakes — and doing it on your schedule!
Meghan Lafferty grew up with a deep love of grammar. As a child, one of her favourite activities was filling out grammar workbooks! She was everyone’s go-to proofreader during school, and she even had dreams of becoming an editor one day.
Fast forward to now, and Meghan has turned her passion for words into a successful business. After graduating from our coaching and training program, High-Level Proofreading And Copyediting Pro, she started her business Meghan Lafferty Editing & Proofreading. She took time out of her busy day to have a chat with me about how she made her dream of becoming a proofreader and editor come true.
In our interview, we discussed:
- How Meghan tapped into her lifelong love of grammar to start proofreading and copyediting
- What her typical day is like managing her side hustle with a full-time job
- How Meghan grows her business using social media
- And lots more!
UPDATE: Shortly after we recorded this interview, Meghan landed a full-time position as an editor at a startup and has left her nonprofit job. She now balances her new editorial role with her private clients. Meghan’s plan always was to grow her side hustle into a full-time business, and I’m so happy to see she’s achieved it so quickly! I had a lot of fun chatting with Meghan, and I hope you enjoy watching the interview!
